In the first passage the apostles were being asked to do some church administration – to care for some widows. Now that is an important and loving ministry. But they responded by saying that this was not the most important priority for them.

When he comes, he meets with the Call Committee, the leadership team, and maybe others in the church. Frequently, the biblical qualifications of a pastor are often ignored by a man as he considers becoming a pastor or an elder. They fail to ask, “Am I Qualified To Be a Pastor, if I have an unbelieving wife and rebellious children?

The requirement assumes that everyone is witness of the same sin at the same time, and to the same lack of repentance.

When you see a man who wants things his way, he is not qualified to be in the ministry. A self-willed man is very difficult to work with. He might be eager to fight every theological battle that comes along. Or, he might minimize the teaching of the Word of God in order to achieve his own goal. That is a common pattern.
